"DRY RIO /
RIO SECO"
Various Sites, Rio De Janeiro
Rua Das Laranjeiras, Laranjeiras - Restored March 2011 after complaints of stagnant water. Now dry. Was popular with homeless people who live nearby under the flyover (1)
Praça Ben Gurion, Rua Das Laranjeiras, Laranjeiras - Erected in 1965. Today, seats removed and fountain turned off to prevent homeless people using the water to wash (2). Now used as a 'cabinet' for those without access to toilets.
Largo do Prof Silva Mello, Cosme Velho - created 1975 now well and truly dry!
Praça Jose de Alencar, Flamengo - 'preserved' 2009, now dry. The reurbanisation of the square had also removed the childrens playground (3).
Praça Marinha do Brasil, Botafogo - 'revitalised' October 2010 to big fanfare (4). Now dry again and used as homeless place to hang out.
Praça Nicaragua, Botafogo - Moved here in 1924 and dry since at least 2010.
Praia do Botafogo, Botafogo - Once a beautiful crane that succumbed to felons (5), then an urn and now dry since at least 2010.
Praia do Botafogo, Botafogo - the Star fountain and dry since 2011 at least.
